Everhood 2 is a great experience. The gameplay is good, the art and character designs top-notch, and the experience as a whole was pretty great. For these reasons, I do recommand this game, as I don't regret playing it.
However, as a sequel to Everhood, it fails in almost every aspect.
The first game was an almost transcendent experience, with an incredible blend of music, gameplay and memorable characters, tied together by a great story.
Everhood 2 has lackluster music, some questionable changes to gameplay, inconsistent characters, and a confusing mess of a story that doesn't lead anywhere.
That's not to say that Everhood 2 is irredeemable in everything it does. There are some truly great moments in it, some of the characters are good, some of the fights are memorable, but it is a far cry from the impact the first one had.
The game ends abuptly in a very unsatisfying way, without any secret routes or alternate endings (despite characters hinting at a true ending, there doesn't seem to be any?), leaving behind a number of unresolved plot threads.
It also adds RPG elements to the gameplay, which... aren't bad, but I question what they add to the game.
Adding EXP, levels and stats means that they also had to add repeatable encounters and fodder mobs, which just dilutes the really focused experience that the first game had.
Imagine going from a boss rush formula with really tight gameplay, to just grinding weak enemies for hours. I have to ask why these changes were at all necessary.
To reiterate : Everhood 2 isn't a bad game, and I had a good time playing it.
It just isn't a great sequel.
